The Power of Your Thoughts

Hello, All! I'm on family vacation in Florida until this weekend. I'm staying focused on my Keto journey and am excited to share with you all the trials and triumphs I have encountered on our trip next week. For today I will be sharing with you one of my columns from this past summer. Enjoy!

Have you ever contemplated the power your thoughts have on your life? Truth be told, I never used to think about such things. I was too busy living life, complaining about things that were going wrong, and in my backwards way of thinking I was enabling myself into not being the best that I could be. One day when things weren't going so well I sat down took a deep breath and wondered what I could do differently to change things. Right there I had a thought that was different and I decided to act on it. I began to delve into what I could change to create a more pleasant surrounding for myself.

Don't get me wrong, my life was fine, but I used to let all sorts of little things upset me. I used to let people upset me. I used to let the weather upset me. The list didn't stop there, but you get my drift. No matter how upset I got nothing ever changed. The little things, the people, and the weather were all oblivious of my feelings. I decided that life was passing me by quickly and if I didn't do something to change my situation I was going to be caught in this black hole forever. I read something around that same time that has stuck with me ever since. I have no idea who wrote it, but they were brilliant.

The 3 C's in life: Choices. Chances. Changes.

You must make a Choice to take a Chance or your life will never Change. Whoa!

I decided to apply that to my life. After all, I only get one just like you. It's up to each of us to live it to the fullest. When we arrive to the end of the road will we look back in regret or will we be happy with what we did. The power of your thoughts is truly everything. What you give power to has power over you if you allow it. Think about that for a minute. If you allow it to settle in it's rather mind-boggling. I am here to tell you that every word of that is true!

"Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behaviors. Keep your behaviors positive because your behaviors become your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny." ~Ghandhi

BOOM!!! Did you read that?! Read it again......and again. I truly believe if everyone knew how much power their thoughts had over their lives they wouldn't dare think another negative thought the rest of their lives.

Once I discovered this and it resonated with me I began to take action one step at a time. It wasn't easy to break my bad habit of allowing negative thoughts, negative people, and negative situations to penetrate my thoughts. I'm not saying that unpleasant things don't happen in my life anymore, but I think about them entirely differently than I used to and I don't let those things dictate my thinking or my attitude. It took time to break this cycle. I was like a baby taking my first steps. It wasn't easy and it was difficult, but I knew that it had to be done. I noticed the more positive things that I focused on the better everything became and my life began to change. Mind you, things around me were the same, but I was growing and developing and that helped me to see things in a positive light.

I share this with you today because we are now in a world that is full of negativity. It's easy to get drug down by it, but you must persist if you desire a life of joy and positivity. We must lead by example because important folks are watching us (our children). I refuse to sit down and let life pass me by while feeling ho-hum about the ride. I fully intend to live each day to the fullest with a big old smile on my face. I hope you decide to do the same. Here is a parting thought: some say the glass is half full while some say it's half empty. I like to be different and say that I'm just happy to have a glass. How full I decide to make it is entirely up to me each and every day!

Cheers! ~Cheyenne
