The Incredible Women of The Cowboy Way - Alabama

The sixth season of The Cowboy Way began last Wednesday. Did you catch it? If not, keep your eyes open. The Cowboy Way airs on Wednesday nights at 6 pm MST on the following INSP TV channels:

My family and I have been following the Booger Brown, Bubba Thompson, and Cody Harris (the three main characters of the show) ever since we began watching years ago. We are fans! One thing this is unmistakeable about the show is that these cowboys don't make it along. Family is a big deal to each of them and they show much love and gratitude to their wives. Being a ranch wife myself, I know how it goes. It takes a partnership made of love and devotion to make a ranch work. My hat is off to the incredible women of The Cowboy Way!

This topic was on my mind last year when I did an interview with the three cowboys before their fifth season launched. I asked about interviewing the ladies. It didn't work out last year for me to do that, but the opportunity presented itself a short time ago so here we are. I'm pleased to announced that I was able to send interview questions to each of the ladies: Jaclyn Brown, Kaley Thompson, and Misty Harris! I read their responses and I actually had tears in my eyes as I read their passion-filled words. It is apparent in every word (and in every episode) that they care deeply about their children, husbands, and their livelihood. Faith is also first and foremost for these gals. Instead of me breaking up their responses and making it confusing I've decided to just feature each gal below with their questions and responses. I hope you enjoy their responses as much as I have. It really gives us all a more intimate look into these wonderful ladies and their lives. I feel extremely blessed to follow these ladies and am proud of how they represent themselves and their families. Enjoy!!

Jaclyn Brown

Where were you born/raised?

I was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and I lived outside of the city in Carmel until my family moved to Crestview, Florida when I was 10.

Any siblings?

I grew up with my older sister, D’Arcie, and my younger brother, Nicholas.

How did you meet your husband?

I’m a pharmacist in a hospital, where I worked with Misty Harris (Cody’s wife), who is a nurse. She decided that Booger and I should meet.

How has becoming a mom changed your life?

Becoming a mom hasn’t just changed my life, I feel like it has given me a life. I wanted to be a mom for as long as I can remember. It gives me a purpose.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about my family, and making our house a home. I am passionate about being a mother, and giving Matthew (my son) the foundation to be a good man. I am passionate about traveling and adventures and experiences. I find myself buying fewer material things and getting out and seeing this country as much as I can. I’ve had a goal for Matthew since he was 13 months old, and that is to have him visit each state before he graduates high school. I don’t count driving through a state. We have to specifically visit and experience something that each state has to offer. So far at five years old, he has experienced 23 states.

What has changed for you and your family over the past 4 years of The Cowboy Way?

My situation is quite unique in that I didn’t know Booger prior to the show. Over the last four years, everything has changed in my and Matthew’s life. We started a new family, I moved to Alabama, I cut back my work hours to part-time, and Matthew started school. Of course, being on the show brought its own set of changes. I had to adjust to being recognized, and it is also an adjustment for millions of people to know details about my personal life.

What do you like to do to relax?

Hot baths are my way to relax. I probably take too many of them. It’s the first thing I do after work and I have been guilty of taking two to three in a day. I buy more bath salts and soaks than I would like to admit.

Favorite beauty hack?

I’m not sure I really have a beauty hack. I’m pretty low maintenance, but maybe I should look into learning some!

What advice would you give to 18-year-old you?

I would tell my 18-year-old self that I am not, nor will I ever be, in control of my life. My master plan of getting married, going to college, building a house, then having children would not work out the way I thought it would on the neat and tidy list I had in my head. I would, however, not tell myself that James (Matthew’s father) would pass away right after our baby’s first birthday. I’m not sure I would have listened. In fact, I’m 100% sure my 18-year-old self would shrug off my advice and keep moving forward with her perfect plan.

If you could trade places with one famous person for one day, who would it be and why?

I have put a lot of thought into this, and it turns out, I can’t answer it. I wouldn’t want to trade places with anyone for a day.

What are your hopes and dreams for your child/children?

My number one hope for Matthew is that he turns out to be a good person. I place a very high value on integrity. I want him to be someone who does the right thing, even when no one is looking. I want him to be honest, humble and caring.

What is your advice for fellow ranch women?

My advice to anyone is to remember that life is short. Do what it takes to make yourself happy. Don’t wait for the perfect time because the perfect time is right now.

What is your favorite meal to cook for your family?

My favorite meal to cook for my family is probably steaks prepared on the grill, baked potatoes and salad.

Favorite episode or moment thus far on The Cowboy Way?

My all-time favorite moment on the show is when I sneezed in the garden and Matthew said, “Bless you, sweetheart.” I wish he could stay little and so precious forever.

Favorite inspirational/motivational quote?

“I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” -Maya Angelou

I was raised to treat everyone with the same amount of dignity, whether they are your brain surgeon or your waitress. I am trying to raise Matthew to be respectful, and I believe if we are good people, then we really shouldn’t have to put much effort into it; It should come naturally. Hopefully, we can make a difference, even if it is just making one person’s day better.

Kaley Thompson

Where were you born/raised?

I was born and raised in Southern Mississippi.

Any siblings?

I have one brother who is two years older.

How did you meet your husband?

I met Bubba in Gulf Shores, Alabama in 2012. My friends wanted a picture with him because he recently had been on a TV show, but they didn’t want to ask, so I did. The rest is history.

How has becoming a mom changed your life?

It has given me so much purpose. I love having a little best friend with me every day.

What are you passionate about?

I’m most passionate about my family.

What has changed for you and your family over the past 4 years of The Cowboy Way?

Life has gotten a little bit busier, and schedules are a little more hectic, but so much good has happened, too. We’ve met so many great people that The Cowboy Way has impacted, and that makes all the craziness worth it.

What do you like to do to relax?

Honestly, the most relaxing moments for me are late at night when Andie and Bubba are asleep and I can watch TV or read a book in peace and quiet.

Favorite beauty hack?

My favorite beauty hack is to use illuminating primer.

What advice would you give to 18-year-old you?

I would tell my 18-year-old self not to rush life and all the milestones. Live young and free in the early years.

If you could trade places with one famous person for one day, who would it be and why?

I would like to trade places for one day with any country singer. Just once, I would like to feel that rush that they all talk about when they’re on stage performing. I would only want to do this one day, though; I could not imagine living that lifestyle daily.

What are your hopes and dreams for your child/children?

I hope that my children grow into healthy, well-rounded adults that positively contribute to society and lead Christian lifestyles.

What is your advice for fellow ranch women?

Appreciate the lifestyle through the good and the bad. Appreciate your husband even though the long hours are hard on you as a spouse and/or mother. Don’t be afraid to get out there, help out and get dirty when you can.

What is your favorite meal to cook for your family?

My favorite thing to cook for my family is Bacon-Wrapped Meatloaf Minis.

Favorite episode or moment thus far on The Cowboy Way?

My favorite moment on the series has been when my daughter was born in Season 1. I absolutely love having all that footage to look back on.

Favorite inspirational/motivational quote?

I don’t have one favorite. I LOVE so many quotes. But one of my many favorites would be, “Things work out best for those who make the best of how things work out.” To me, this is a simple reminder that your mentality determines so much in your life, so try to see the good.

Misty Brown

Where were you born/raised?

I was born and raised in Kiln, Mississippi.

Any siblings?

Yes, I have an older sister named Mindy.

How did you meet your husband?

I met my husband at the 2012 rodeo finals where we both were contestants.

How has becoming a mom changed your life?

I love every aspect of being a mom! It absolutely has made my life complete. I could not imagine my life for a second without my son, Carter.

What are you passionate about?

Other than my family, I am passionate about all things cattle and horses!

What has changed for you and your family over the past 4 years of The Cowboy Way?

The main thing that has changed for my family is the notoriety that we have received. It has allowed us to grow our companies, Full Moon Cattle Company and Harris and Company, and has also allowed us to be connected to so many people who actually bless us through the messages we receive.

What do you like to do to relax?

My go-to for relaxation is to ride around our farm admiring the landscape and livestock with Cody and Carter.

Favorite beauty hack?

My favorite beauty hack is to use setting spray. It truly does keep your make-up in place all day, even during farm work.

What advice would you give to 18-year-old you?

I would tell my 18-year-old self to be anxious for nothing. As the saying goes, God's timing is the best timing.

If you could trade places with one famous person for one day, who would it be and why?

I would trade places with Beyoncé for one day just so I could try out her voice and dance moves. I do not possess any of those skills!

What are your hopes and dreams for your child/children?

My hopes and dreams for Carter are that he would have joy and health in all aspects of his life.

What is your advice for fellow ranch women?

My advice for fellow ranch women is to keep up the hard work. My favorite aspect of ranch women is how they are able to be successful equally at grace and grit.

What is your favorite meal to cook for your family?

My favorite meal to cook my family is anything made with Full Moon Cattle beef. I know that they are getting a clean, healthy meal.

Favorite episode or moment thus far on The Cowboy Way?

My favorite episode of The Cowboy Way thus far is the Bay Minette Rodeo. It was so fun for me to be able to showcase my skills as barrel racer to our viewers and to beat Booger in a friendly competition.

Favorite inspirational/motivational quote?

My go-to source of inspiration is Isaiah 41:10. It has served me well in a variety of situations.
